BBC reporting plan to permanently close four libraries scrapped

You may have seen reports on the BBC about the closure of the four under threat libraries in Argyll and Bute has been withdrawn. While this seems good news, we have been trying to get clarification what this means.
Rosneath has been “temporarily” closed since Covid and our library on Tiree has been temporarily” closed since November last year.
Does the announcement mean the continuation of the status quo or are they going to reopen Tiree’s library?
Is the withdrawal just till the end of the financial year?
We have been trying to get a clearer picture from, Argyll and Bute council, our Councillors and Live Argyll, only to read an update on the BBC. We are grateful for our MSP Jenni Minto’s continued support during this period.
Once we receive clarification we will post details.

Live Argyll produce library survey for two libraries but not Tiree. Why?

Lochside Press have reported (https://thelochsidepress.com/2025/08/20/no-timeline-for-cardross-library-closure/) that Live Argyll have put up a survey on their website re Tarbert and Cardross libraries closing (https://liveargyll.co.uk/news/announcements/library-closure-consultation-survey/).

Why is Rosneath or Tiree not included? Not sure. We have not heard from Live Argyll or A&BC for some time now.

 

 

Laying of new SSEN cable from Coll to Tiree

The  picture below shows the new SSEN cable mid lay. The cable was laid on 20th July, slightly delayed because of poor weather.
At the time of the photograph:
    The blue ship is the cabler layer and it has “thrown” a line onto Tiree.
    The cable was then lain across the surface, kept afloat by the orange buoyancy aids.
After the photograph was taken:
    The line was used to pull the cable on shore.
    The small boats then pulled the cable over to Coll.
    The buoyancy aids were disconnected.
        Allowing the cable to sink to the seabed in a controlled fashion.
    A Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) then buried the cable.
       Then it was connected and energised.
       Finally SSE will come and tidy up.
What does it mean for Tiree?
The current cable us getting towards then end of its life. The new cable will allow a reliable connection to Coll and onto the mainland to continue. The old cable will still be connected and could be used as a backup.
It will bring increased capacity. This will help with the decarbonising of Tiree. With the increased use of ASHP, electric cars and renewable energy. (The trust solar panels, etc). Tiree’s energy profile is changing and this will allow the supply to be maintained.
